Aalia Manie is a partner in the Technology, Media, Telecommunications & Intellectual Property Practice at Webber Wentzel. 

She specialises in intellectual property (IP) and technology law. A large part of her practice involves IP exchange control issues, monetising and extracting value from IP assets through commercial deals, , and the IP aspects of M&A transactions.  She has significant experience in software and technology development, licensing and joint venture arrangements. Her expertise also extends to artificial intelligence, e-business, entertainment law and advertising laws.

Aalia has done extensive industry-wide pro-bono advocacy work on regulatory issues impacting the technology sector and start-up ecosystems in South Africa. Her advocacy work led to Webber Wentzel being awarded the "IP Team of the Year" at the African Legal Awards, 2017.

In 2017, Aalia received the African Legal Awards "Highly Commended" Attorney of the Year (associate) award and was listed as one of the Mail & Guardian's Top 200 Young South Africans. She was also named as a "rising star" and "notable associate" in Managing Intellectual Property's "IP Stars" publication.

She has presented at conferences and written thought leadership articles on IP commercialisation, exchange control and artificial intelligence. Aalia has a B.Bus.Sci degree in finance (with first class honours), an LLB degree from the University of Cape Town, and a certificate in Copyright from Harvard University and the University of Cape Town
