Overview

Webber Wentzel's Media and Technology Department is at the forefront of the multi-media industry and the increasing convergence of media and communication technologies.

The department, which forms part of Corporate Services, comprises of Media and Entertainment, Technology, Telecommunications and Broadcasting Regulatory, as well as Sports and Arts Law Teams. It provides advice on a range of legal issues including Telecommunications, Cellular Telephony, Data Protection and Privacy, Traditional Print and Publications, Broadcasting, Computers and Information Technology, Television Production and Distribution, Radio, Film Financing, Music, Advertising, Sponsorships, Copyright, Sportsperson's and artists contracts, Restraints of Trade and Unlawful Competition.


Clients

To date, we have acted on behalf of numerous South African and international entities, including:

  • Africa's first privately licensed pay television channel;
  • one of Africa's largest mobile cellular operators;
  • terrestrial and satellite communications and signal distribution service providers;
  • leading international television news producers;
  • film and television production companies;
  • film finance companies;
  • and some of the foremost print publishing houses in South Africa, including daily/weekly newspapers and magazines.
