Larry is a partner in the Banking & Finance Practice at Webber Wentzel.

He specialises in corporate and structured finance, mergers and acquisitions, funding transactions, black empowerment transactions and general commercial transactions.

Prior to joining Webber Wentzel in July 2008, Larry was a director at a leading Johannesburg commercial law firm for seven years where he focused on structured finance, funding transactions (including International Swaps and Derivatives Association (ISDA) documentation), mergers and acquisitions and black empowerment transactions. Prior to that, Larry practised commercial law at Mallinicks, initially at their London office and thereafter at their Cape Town office.

Larry has worked on numerous complex transactions, specifically in the structured finance arena, and has acted for industry leaders such as Standard Bank of South Africa, Rand Merchant Bank, the Shanduka Group of Companies, Actis Private Equity and Metropolitan.

  • Acted for both BDO and Grant Thornton in the merger between the Cape Town and Port Elizabeth operations of both companies forming Grant Thornton Cape Incorporated;
  • Advising a leading specialised finance house in a variety of structured finance transactions, both cross-border and local;
  • Advising Actis Private Equity Fund in relation to senior and mezzanine finance facilities in excess of R1 billion with Rand Merchant Bank;
  • Advising Standard Bank of South Africa Limited in the refinancing of a R565 million loan facility;
  • Advising Shaduka Resources in a transaction involving the acquisition by Old Mutual of a shareholding interest in Shanduka Resources;
  • Advising Shaduka Resources in relation to the acquisition of a shareholding interest in Assore Limited;
  • Advising Metropolitan Capital in relation to a financial services venture in the transport industry; and
  • Advising Rand Merchant Bank in relation to a structured purchase facility in excess of R1 billion.
