Martin Versfeld is a partner in the Competition Practice at Webber Wentzel.
He is a specialist in all aspects of competition law and has been at the forefront of developments in this area since the commencement of the Competition Act in South Africa in 1998. He also has extensive knowledge of the medical industry and regulation thereof.
Martin has been involved in a large number of behavioural competition matters and prominent mergers before the competition authorities in South Africa and his knowledge of competition law extends to a number of African countries. He also has significant competition law litigation experience, including follow-on damages claims and an intimate working knowledge of a wide variety of sectors including construction, tobacco, aviation, healthcare, forestry, pharmaceuticals, sugar and pay TV.
His expertise has been recognised by numerous international research organisations including Chambers Global, Legal 500, IFLR1000, Who’s Who Legal and Best Lawyers. He is also the co-author of a book on competition law, A Practical Guide to the South African Competition Act.
Martin has BA and LLB degrees from the University of Cape Town as well as a Certificate in Competition Law from the University of the Witwatersrand.
