Safiyya Patel is a partner and head of the Corporate Practice at Webber Wentzel.
She specialises in general commercial law, mergers and acquisitions and transactions related to black economic empowerment (BEE) compliance and broad-based black economic empowerment (B-BBEE) compliance.
Safiyya has advised on transactions relating to joint ventures, company formations and reorganisations and has worked across the mining, financial, and construction sectors. Her expertise extends to media, telecommunications, broadcasting and information technology law.
She has represented a number of international clients, local enterprises and various state-owned enterprises.
Safiyya has co-authored a work on cyber-rights. In addition, she is an admitted notary public of the High Court of South Africa.
Her expertise has been recognised by international research organisations including Legal 500, IFLR1000 (where she was listed as a leading lawyer in the IFLR1000 Women Leaders Guide 2018), Who's Who Legal, Best Lawyers, India Business Law Journal’s annual survey of the top international law firms for India-related work and is an Executive Committee Member of the Johannesburg Chapter of the Indian Bar Association.
Safiyya has B.Proc and LLB degrees from the University of the Witwatersrand and has completed a Certificate in Telecommunications Policy and Regulatory Issues from the same institution.
