Pamela Stein is a partner and head of the Employment, Health and Safety Practice at Webber Wentzel.

She specialises in employment and  employee benefits law, data protection and privacy.

Pamela commenced her legal career in the 1980's and has extensive experience in all aspects of employment law, including two appointments to act as a Judge of the Labour Court and a number of appointments to act as arbitrator in labour disputes. She has been the lead attorney in a number of precedent setting decisions and many of her judgments handed down in the Labour Court have been reported in the law journals. Before joining Webber Wentzel in 2004, Pamela was a director and Managing Partner of Cheadle Thomson and Haysom, a leading employment and human rights law firm.

Pamela advises clients across a range of sectors including aviation, energy, IT, media, manufacturing, retail and professional services.

Recently, Pamela has been involved in advising on business restructuring, employment issues flowing from mergers and acquisitions, disputes over collective agreement interpretation, regulatory and litigation for retirement funds and medical aid schemes, disputes over post retirement medical benefits, discrimination law, workforce redundancy, harmonisation of employee remuneration structures and benefits and business crimes and investigation.

Pamela regularly speaks and writes on privacy and data protection and advises on data protection compliance and privacy.  She has been commissioned by Lexis Nexis to write a book for publication in 2017, on Employment, Data Protection and Privacy. Pamela has for many years been an expert in media law and she continues to be retained as an adviser to Carte Blanche.

Her expertise has been recognised by various international research organisations including Chambers Global, Legal 500 and Who's Who Legal.

Pamela has BA and LLB degrees from the University of the Witwatersrand, a Post Graduate Diploma in Applied Social Science from Natal University and an LLM degree from the London School of Economics.  She also has a Post Graduate Diploma from Strathclyde University, Glasgow in Information Technology and Telecommunications.
