Sports and Arts

Overview

Webber Wentzel's Media and Technology Practice is well positioned to help its clients meet the challenges around legal issues relating to sport, and make the most of the opportunities, that lie ahead. Our clients range from sports clubs and sports bodies to professional players needing expertise on sports codes and the applicable statutory provisions that govern their relationships.

The department has also represented some of South Africa's leading Arts foundations, including Business Arts South Africa and the Gerard Sekoto Foundation, often on a pro bono basis. Our legal assistance in the arts context has included copyright advice, establishment of non-profit trusts and companies, tax advice and general commercial advice.

  • event management, fundraising, marketing and advertising agreements;
  • image rights;
  • player management and representation;
  • licensing, sponsorship and merchandising;
  • sports regulatory bodies;
  • establishment of non-profit trusts and companies;
  • copyright advice in respect of artistic and musical works;
  • tax advice in respect of public benefit organisations; and
