The National Minimum Wage Act 9 of 2018 (NMWA) came into operation on 1 January 2019. The national minimum wage figures as they currently stand are -
The Minister of Employment and Labour has recently announced that these figures will be increased
with effect 1 March 2020. The new figures are -
The national minimum wage will increase by approximately 3.8% (in line with South Africa's annual inflation). This is despite trade unions calling for an increase of 12.5%.
