This publication highlights significant legal and regulatory developments that took place in South Africa during 2018, and expected changes for 2019. Highlights for South Africa in 2018 include the appointment of a new President, Cyril Ramaphosa and how this new leadership fostered greater investor confidence, seeing markets rally strongly only one day after Ramaphosa assumed the presidency. Other highlights include the publication of Mining Charter III, as well as the passing into law of the highly anticipated Arbitration Act. The publication notes that the outcome of the 2019 general elections as a key determinant in South Africa's economic trajectory and its policies. It has been predicted that South Africa may see better investment conditions following the upcoming elections and that upstream oil & gas and mining sectors, in particular, could see an upturn.
