Webber Wentzel publishes insights pieces looking at key legal and regulatory developments for 2018/2019

Webber Wentzel together with its alliance partner, Linklaters, recently published a Year in Review and Year to Come 2018/2019 insights piece. This publication highlights significant legal and regulatory developments that took place in South Africa during 2018, and expected changes for 2019. It forms part of a series of publications produced by Linklaters on global legal and regulatory developments. The South African chapter is available here and the global guide is available here.

Highlights for South Africa in 2018 include the appointment of a new President, Cyril Ramaphosa and how this new leadership fostered greater investor confidence, seeing markets rally strongly only one day after Ramaphosa assumed the presidency. Other highlights include the publication of Mining Charter III, as well as the passing into law of the highly anticipated Arbitration Act. The publication notes that the outcome of the 2019 general elections as a key determinant in South Africa's economic trajectory and its policies. It has been predicted that South Africa may see better investment conditions following the upcoming elections and that upstream oil & gas and mining sectors, in particular, could see an upturn.

Webber Wentzel also produced a series of videos for clients offering key insights and trends on doing business in Africa. The videos include collaborative experts insights from experts at Linklaters and relationship firms across Africa.
