Webber Wentzel services its clients with different channels through lock-down

In support of President Cyril Ramaphosa’s efforts to “flatten the curve” of Covid-19 infections over the next few weeks, Webber Wentzel has closed its physical offices in Johannesburg and Cape Town for the 21-day national lockdown. We have put measures in place to enable all our staff to work remotely and continue delivering a full service to our clients.

We have set up a website portal with the latest Covid-19 insights and guidance from our team of experts, which is available to clients, media and the public, and we will keep it regularly updated with the latest information. We will also shortly be launching a podcast channel.

Through the recently-formed Business for South Africa initiative, we are working with fellow South African law firms and corporates to enhance government’s efforts to respond to this crisis. Together we are driving a proactive approach to limit the economic, social and health impacts of Covid-19 on South Africa. Our objective is to reduce risk and implement practical measures to ease the hardships that will follow.

Our lawyers form part of a multidisciplinary team of experts who are working pro bono on a range of interventions in various areas such as healthcare, the labour market and the economy. Our dedicated pro bono team is also supporting NGOs and community-based offices during this time as they face an overflow of requests from people who need basic legal advice in accessing urgent relief through UIF, social grants and provident fund pay-outs as a result of the immediate impact of Covid-19.
